              Cantors and Psalmists

“The role of cantor was restored to Roman Catholic liturgical practice by reforms of the Second Vatican Council. The role of cantor has come to signify a number of things...

              • animate the sung worship of the assembly
              • share in proclaiming the word of God, particularly when acting as Psalmist
              • lead the assembly in its songs, refrains and acclamation.

"This ministry requires a great deal of competence. The cantor must be a singer, proclaimer, liturgical minister and spiritual leader.” -- Handbook for Cantors - Diana Kodner Sotak

In addition to these qualities, abilities, and commitment, every cantor at All Souls Church must have some relationship to either the Spanish, Contemporary, or Parish Choirs.
